Exinda Awarded US$1.1 Million Contract From GITN
Exinda Networks has been awarded a US $1.1 million contract from Government Integrated Telecom Network (GITN), the official service provider of the Malaysian government. The contract is part of GITN's bandwidth management project, which strives to improve application response times to provide better government services to Malaysian citizens.

The project involves implementing more than 700 Exinda WAN optimization appliances throughout the government network over the next two years. GITN will also utilize Exinda's Service Delivery Point (SDP), a software as a service platform, to centrally monitor and manage the WAN optimization appliances distributed throughout the government network.

GITN officials commented "We feel confident in our selection because Exinda provides a comprehensive solution that's easy to use and affordable--important considerations for a project of this scope."

Technical Update
Exinda's Auto-Discovery Mechanism
Exinda's second generation application acceleration products, which will be available in 1Q08, will include an auto discovery feature. The second generation appliances will automatically discover each other, eliminating the need to be pointed to a community. When installing the appliance, simply snap the device into the network. It will automatically join its community of peers and begin optimizing and accelerating traffic. The peer-to-peer architecture means there is no central device for the community. Instead, each device is capable of retaining the status of the community.

How does it work?
The auto-discovery mechanism relies on the TCP options field. As traffic flows between two offices where two Exinda appliances are installed in the path, each Exinda will intelligently inject a TCP option field into some of the outgoing traffic. The option field contains identification and other information about the Exinda appliance injecting it. This field will be detected by any Exinda appliance, which will then exchange information with the Exinda that injected it. Based on this information the appliances will negotiate their capabilities and begin to optimize and accelerate.

Benefits of the Auto-Discovery Feature:

  • No need to configure appliances to point to a central node. Simply install them.
  • The peer-to-peer architecture means there is no need for a primary or secondary central node, removing points of failure in the community.
  • The peer-to-peer architecture also means that partly or fully meshed environments are supported by default. There is no need to configure anything. As long as there is traffic between two branch offices, it will be optimized and accelerated.
  • No matter how large the community is, the deployment effort is the same. Exinda appliances eliminate the hassle of having to add a device to a large community of nodes and create tunnels from the appliance to each node.
